Crawling
Individually, we emerge
from a web of lives
entwined, complicated
with our own untried
dreams and naïve hopes.
Crawling across threads
taut with the strength of
habit and history, we learn
where not to go.
We feel safe until
the bridges, just crossed,
burn behind us, set fire
by the hands we trusted.
We learn, then,
to cast our own
lifelines, praying
they will hold.
