Here, in my silence, the world expands
\nto include all its people – past,
\npresent, and future – to make
\nsense of why I am and am not.<\/p>\n
In the first atom that would boast
\nthe promise of life, as in the atom
\nthat would become death to
\nthousands of lives, lay our reason:
\nto become a changed thing.<\/p>\n
No substance, animate or inanimate,
\nis untouched by time and season.
\nThe cloud-capped stone peak is
\nreduced to gravel beneath my unsteady
\nfoot as my path shifts at yet
\nanother turn.<\/p>\n
This changing landscape holds the
\nthrill and terror of the unknown.
\nWe pale at its challenge or leap
\nwith joyful wings into newness.
\nThe steady tattoo of our heart
\nmarches us, willing or not, into
\nanother moment, another existence.<\/p>\n
Here, in the breath each heart beat
\ngives me, my world stands still.
\nI accept myself as present, empowered
\nby the gift and freed by the beautiful
\ntruth of now. And love gives my heart
